We’ve all studied the 6 kingdom of classification in our childhoods. The 6 kingdoms are:Plants, Animals, Protists, Fungi, Archaebacteria, Eubacteria.
Let us leave that aside.
It is clear that humans are being increasingly attached to technology. Technology is an integral dominant social force in the present generation. What does technology mean to us. And more importantly, what is its future. Could technology bridge the gap between artificial to biological. Improvements in AI are happening so drastically that I wouldn’t be surprised if I wake up tomorrow with a completely new kingdom of technology-known as Technium.
The term itself was coined by futurist and prominent author Kevin Kelly. Visit his site @kk.org
Life is differentiated as it constantly seeks something as opposed to others. But does this apply to technium also? If so, it would obviously pin down technium as a 7th kingdom of life. Now, I’m not completely with technium being called as life. If you go by definition, life is ‘the condition that distinguishes animals and plants from inorganic matter, including the capacity for growth, reproduction, functional activity, and continual change preceding death.’ This would, obviously, disregard the idea of technium as a form of life.
But you also have to consider the fact that what we are talking about the present; things could change in the future. That may seem absurd, but technology keeps surprising us. We could being going into a future we are integrated with technology.
I’m gonna leave it there. Think about it, does the idea appeal to you? Or does it seem completely foolish? Let me know in the comments section below….
